A Scottish longcase clock c 1890 in a contrasting light and dark mahogany veneered case, hood with a carved and crested pediment with a break arch door flanked by inlaid parquetry work, with a short trunk door and applied cushion mouldings, door flanked by half-turned applied columns on a square pediment with a recessed panel, fully painted break arch dial with spandrels representing the united kingdoms of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales with a depiction of Robert Bruce to the arch, dial with Roman numerals ,minute track, subsidiary calendar dial and seconds dial with matching stamped brass hands, dial inscribed “J Cuthill, Beeth”, with an eight day striking movement, striking the hours on a cast bell. With pendulum and two flat weights.
John Cuthill is recorded as working as a watchmaker and clockmaker at 36 Eglington Street, Beith, Ayrshire. 1893.
