Cooper Willyams (British 1762-1816): 'Egypt - Castle of Aboukir bearing S'6'W 5 miles August 12th 1798', watercolour signed inscribed and dated 21cm x 31.5cm Notes: Willyams, whose father was a commander in the Royal Navy, was Chaplin on board H.M.S Swiftsure during the battle of the Nile 1st-3rd August 1798; this watercolour was executed nine days after the battle when the castle was still occupied by the French Army. Willyams' landscapes of Egypt, Palestine, Greece, Italy, Minorca, and Gibraltar were posthumously published along with his account of the Battle of the Nile
