Provenance: from the estate of Christine Dexter and by descent from the artist's sister Eleanor Marie (Nellie)
In 1898 & 1899 Mason spent quite sometime in Holland at the artist's colony in Volendam centred on the Hotel Spaander, an artist friendly atelier run by Leendert Spaander. Here Mason circulated with an international group of artists including the caricaturist Phil May and illustrator Tom Brown (both illustrated). In March 1899 he took he took his new bride Edith for their honeymoon visiting Rotterdam, Katwijk then on to Volendam in June extending to his birthday on the 1st October coinciding with the boisterous festival of Kermis .
