The Country House Sale

17/04/2021

We are delighted to present our forthcoming Country House Sale, showcasing an impressive array of antiques; from glass and porcelain, to samplers, taxidermy and a variety of collectors items. Featured is a diverse range of lights, clocks, furniture, rugs and garden items which span from the late 17th to the 21st Century.

The auctions begins with a large private collection of 18th century, and later, drinking glasses with many examples of air twist and opaque twist stems - displaying the unmistakable skill and talent of the glassmakers of the era.

Other private collections follow, including a breath-taking consignment of 18th century blue and white porcelain featuring the iconic factories of Worcester, Liverpool, Bow and Lowestoft. Further remarkable names within the ceramics section include Minton, Derby and Leeds, as well as noteworthy Continental artisans Meissen, Sevres and Vienna.

Our resident clock specialist has curated an outstanding section featuring a tremendous 19th century walnut bracket clock by none other than Penlington of Liverpool and a wide variety of traditional Grandfather clocks.

The furniture includes a collection of early country and oak furniture, consigned from a traditional Yorkshire cottage. There is also a strong selection of upholstery, bedroom and dining room furnishings and plenty of unique occasional items. The catalogue boasts an exceptional display of mirrors, notably a Regency carved circular mirror.

Highlights such as a collection of Persian and Turkish rugs, carpets and runners, culminate in a finely knotted Persian Qom. The auction continues with Yorkshire Oak, always an important feature of our Country House auctions, and this sale is no exception - with a single-owner collection of Alan Grainger ‘Acornman’ of Brandsby furniture.

We conclude the sale with a wide selection of garden furniture; including stone troughs, planters, urns and benches perfect for spending time outside in the glorious Yorkshire Springtime.
