Gertrude Talmage (née Rowe) (St Ives School 1866-1941): Still Life of Flowers in a Chinese Vase, oil on canvas indistinctly signed and dated 1927, St. Ives framer's label verso 45cm x 24cm Notes: this lot has previously been attributed to the artist's husband, Algernon Mayow Talmage, as the first letter of the signature is not clear. However, Algernon left his wife and St Ives for London in 1907, and as such it seems unlikely that a 1927 painting by himself would have been framed there. Gertrude was more famous as an art teacher than an artist in her own right, and consequently her work very rarely comes on the market.
