Tootell A.B.R.N.; with four other medals comprising Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Eastern Service Medal, unofficial British and Commonwealth Occupation Forces Association Occupation of Japan medal and IFKVWA 40th Anniversary Medal; together with an archive of contemporary and later related items including Certificate of Service 1946-54, Recommendations for Advancement and Conduct Record Sheet 1946-53, Quartermasters History Sheet 1949-53, Destroyer Association China Station 1945-53 beret, later manuscript journal with his own account of the Yangtze incident etc, Joe's birth certificate details dated 1968, reprinted half-length portrait in uniform, Manual of Seamanship 1937, modern shield and framed crests, blazer badges and metal badges and a copy of Loyal & Steadfast - The Story of HMS Consort 2008, which gives details of how Joe Tootell received his wounds, the extract reads ' When Consort came under fire a short time later it was a strange, perhaps unreal experience for many of the crew who had never seen action before. Ordinary Seaman Joe Tootell was in the wheelhouse. 'I could not see the action. We could hear the ship taking severe punishment. When the wheelhouse took a direct hit, killing the coxwain, Chief Petty Officer Gurney, and myself receiving multiple shrapnel wounds, the steering mechanism was put out of action.'
