This Slim Regency 8-day mahogany longcase clock dates back to around 1820 and was crafted by John Hill of Covent Garden, London. The clock features a plain case with a flat top and cornice, a square door to the dial with a circular glazed aperture, and a rectangular trunk with a long door and moulding beneath, complete with raised panel and applied skirting.
The silvered sheet dial showcases Roman numerals, spade hands, and the maker's name. The clock operates with a weight-driven rack striking movement equipped with a recoil anchor escapement, striking the hours on a bell. This elegant timepiece comes complete with weights and a pendulum.
John Hill's legacy as a clockmaker is documented in Covent Garden for a brief period from 1820 to 1824. Don't miss the chance to own this exquisite piece of horological history at the upcoming auction at Duggleby Auctioneers.
