Joseph Wood of Scarborough - mid 18th century 30 hour pine cased Longcase clock with a flat pediment and broad cornice, break arch hood door with attached pilasters, rectangular trunk with a flat topped full length door with inlay, on a rectangular plinth with a shaped base, brass dial with cast spandrels and makers name to the arch, plain dial centre with a square date aperture and original steel hands, chapter with Roman numerals, five minute Arabic's and minute track, dial pinned directly to a rope driven countwheel striking movement, striking the hours on a bell. With weight and pendulum. Joseph Wood is recorded as a clockmaker in Whitby c1760, however a number of his clocks are found signed Scarborough. It is thought he probably moved to Scarborough later in the 18th century or he possibly sold his clocks via a journeyman in Scarborough.
