This mid-18th century longcase clock features a 30-hour single-handed movement and dial by John Rogers of Leominster, Herefordshire. The movement, housed in a bespoke mahogany case, boasts a 10" brass dial with early "crown" cast brass spandrels. The dial centre is matted with an engraved boss displaying the maker's name. The chapter ring sports Roman numerals, a quarter-hour track, half-hour markers, and original pierced and fettled steel hands. The dial is pinned directly to a countwheel striking chain-driven movement that sounds the hours on a cast bell. The clock comes complete with weight and pendulum.
John Rogers, known to have worked in Leominster from 1750 to 1778, crafted this impressive timepiece. The case has been thoughtfully designed and custom-made to complement the movement, showcasing a sympathetic approach to its presentation.
