This Regency period mahogany 8-day bracket clock by Samuel Martin of Bath, circa 1830, is a stunning piece of craftsmanship. The clock features an arched top with a four-sided and domed socle adorned with a mahogany turned urn. The sides are embellished with brass fish-scale sound frets and lions head handles, adding to its elegance.
The case front is detailed with engraved brass banding along the edge, resting on a narrow moulded plinth raised on bun feet with beaded moulding. The silvered dial boasts Roman numerals, the maker's name, steel moon hands, and an alarm disc enclosed within a glazed cast brass bezel. The dial is secured to a twin train wire-driven fusee movement with a recoil anchor escapement and rack striking mechanism, which chimes the hours on a bell.
At the rear, the movement plate is adorned with a decorative engraved border and a pendulum keep screw. This clock comes complete with its pendulum and key, although the alarm and repeat work have been removed. A beautiful and functional piece that would make a valuable addition to any collection or interior setting.
