Dating back to the early 19th century, this Grand Piano by John Broadwood & Son of London, bears the serial number 7695, originating from the year 1820. It is an early straight strung Regency Grand Piano that has undergone partial refurbishment and restrung. The soundboard displays minor cracks, yet the bridges are in good condition. The action and damping mechanisms are responsive but may require adjustments in some areas. This English grand piano features a six-octave keyboard with 73 keys from C1 to C7, showcasing Ivory naturals and ebony sharps. The Lyre includes sustain and una-chorda pedals, set in a satinwood case with ebony inlay and crossbanding. The piano is supported by four turned legs with castors, presenting an adjustable open lattice music desk.
In 1818, two years before the production of this piano, a similar design was gifted to Beethoven by Thomas Broadwood. Notably, examples of this specific Broadwood Grand can be heard in performances by Alan Cuckston, accessible through the provided links.
