Dating back to the late 18th century, this collection of French portrait miniature buttons showcases exquisite craftsmanship. Each button features a finely painted likeness of notable figures from the French Royal Court on ivory, set under glazed panels within silver frames adorned with paste stones. The reverse of each button is engraved with the sitter's name and fitted with eyelets.
Among the portraits included are "LE ROY" portraying Louis XVI, a youthful and mature depiction of "LA REINE" Marie Antoinette, "MADAME" Maria Josepha of Savoy (1771–1810), wife of Louis, Comte de Provence (later King Louis XVIII), "M. BAILLY" Jean Sylvain Bailly (1736–1793), Mayor of Paris, and "M. L’ABBÉ MAURY" Jean-Siffrein Maury (1746–1817), Cardinal and Archbishop of Paris.
Measuring approximately D3.5cm each, these historical treasures have been later adapted with suspension rings, adding a touch of elegance to their design. Don't miss the chance to own a piece of French history through this remarkable collection available at Duggleby Auctioneers.
