Explore a piece of British history with this fascinating collection of engraved maps. The first piece, by W Rawson after John Cary, presents 'A Plan of the Level of Ancholme in the County of Lincoln'. Reduced to a scale of 1/4 mile to an inch from the 1767–8 survey by E Johnson and J Dickinson, this map was published in 1815. Measuring 20cm x 66cm, it offers a detailed glimpse into the early 19th-century landscape.
In addition to Rawson's work, this collection also includes a map by Francis Wilkinson & John Fotherby from the 17th century. Titled 'A Map of the Level lying upon the River of Ancholme in the County of Lincoln', this piece was engraved for Dugdale's 'History of Imbanking and Draining' around 1640. With dimensions of 15cm x 40cm, this historical map provides a unique perspective on the area's geography.
Both maps are unframed, allowing you to appreciate their intricate details up close. Don't miss the opportunity to own these rare pieces of cartographic history, available at auction through Duggleby Auctioneers.
