Late 19th century engineering or mechanics teaching apparatus, from Professor Stuarts Workshop Cambridge University, written on central inlaid bone plaque, within case, H48.5cm x W36cm 
Notes: Stuart was the first true professor of Engineering at Cambridge between 1875-1890. He persuaded the University to give him a wooden hut to serve as a workshop, on the condition that he furnish and equip it at his own expense. Charles Darwin and Gladstone were among the early visitors to admire the new facility in 1878. This equipment would have been used in the aforementioned workshop.
