This Pictures sale offers a lively and varied selection of works, bringing together landscape, portraiture, marine subjects, animal studies and figure compositions across a broad range of styles and periods.
The catalogue has a particularly strong visual energy, moving from striking animal paintings such as Rayford Holroyd’s Sleeping Lion and Tony Forrest’s tiger study, to dramatic narrative scenes including Harry Bishop’s The Chase. Elsewhere, continental and theatrical subjects bring further richness, with works such as Arthur Trevor Haddon’s Spanish musicians and dancer and an early 20th century Spanish School scene following the bullfight.
Portraiture and figurative works are also well represented, from the characterful compositions of Gisèle Belleud to the intimate domestic interiors of Pat Maclaurin. Yorkshire and northern interest appears throughout, including works by Barry De More, consigned by the artist’s widow, while marine and coastal paintings add another strong thread to the sale, with examples by Stan Kaminski and Gordon Ellis.
Traditional painting sits comfortably alongside later 20th century and modern works, with still life, landscape and European views all contributing to a well-rounded and appealing catalogue. Artists such as Owen Bowen, Alfred Fontville de Breanski Jnr., Willem Martens and Roger Gerson further broaden the range on offer.
With such a mix of subject matter, mood and scale, the sale should appeal equally to established collectors and those simply looking for an individual picture with decorative presence. Browse the catalogue and place your bids today.
