This exceptional Victorian silver provincial snuff box features a rounded rectangular shape, adorned with a hinged cover bearing a central engraved crest and the motto "Pro Legibus et Regibus" (For our Laws and Kings). The case rim is intricately chased with flower heads, complementing the detailed corners of the body.
Opening the snuff box reveals a striking gilt interior, with a remarkable presentation engraving on the underside of the cover. The engraving honours 'Charles H Wilson MP of Kingston upon Hull, One of the First Directors of the Hull Barnsley and West Riding Junction Railway and Dock Company'. The box contains a portion of the First Sod of the undertaking, turned on 15th Jan 1991, and was presented by Lieut Col Gerard Smith JP, Chairman of the Company.
