Ivan Peries (Sri Lankan 1921-1988 - Columbo '43 Group) captured in "Seated Man," a striking watercolour on paper signed with initials and dated '82. The piece measures 29cm x 21cm (unframed).
Ivan Peries, a key figure in the 20th century modern art scene, was a founding member of the '43 group in Columbo (formerly British Ceylon). His body of work includes a significant series of similar pieces, with this specific creation originating in 1982. Interestingly, all works in this series bear the '82 date, a deliberate choice by Peries to maintain artistic continuity. Notably, the V&A museums boast three pieces that closely resemble those from this collection.
The provenance of this artwork is deeply rooted in personal connections. Acquired from Veronica Peries, the artist's wife, the vendor, a close friend of the Peries family, obtained these pieces during Veronica's residence in Southend on Sea, UK.
Duggleby Auctioneers is proud to present this exquisite example of Ivan Peries' artistry, offering collectors a unique opportunity to own a piece with a rich history and cultural significance.
