A 19th-century Chippendale revival mahogany breakfront linen press, in the manner of Gillows, for sale at auction with Duggleby Auctioneers. The moulded top has an egg-and-dart carved edge, above figured mahogany panel doors with shaped mouldings that open to reveal five sliding linen trays. Two banks of five graduated drawers flank the doors, each with conforming moulded fronts and foliate cast brass drop handles on circular backplates.
Canted, fluted outer corners frame a blind-fretwork lower frieze bordered by bead-and-reel mouldings. The press stands on short cabriole supports with acanthus-carved knees, scrolled spandrels and hairy paw feet. The brass locks are stamped ‘Aubin Maker’ and ‘Nettlefold’s Patent Lever’; the rear is impressed ‘1059’ beside a quartered circular mark.
