Advertising Hand Cart A rare and highly decorative late Victorian or Edwardian advertising hand cart, retaining its original black painted finish and gilt signwriting for West of England Knitting Co. Ltd., London, Penzance & St Ives. The enclosed box body is mounted on large cream painted wooden spoked wheels and fitted with rear push handles, allowing the cart to be manoeuvred by hand. Intended as a promotional and delivery vehicle for one of Britain's best known knitwear manufacturers, the cart survives as an evocative piece of commercial advertising history. The interior remains accessible via twin rear doors, while traces of the original maker's transfer for the Warwick Carrier are visible. An unusual and attractive display piece suited to collectors of advertising, transport memorabilia and social history.
