This season’s Country House Sale brings together an exceptionally rich and varied assembly of more than seven hundred lots drawn from distinguished estates and long-established family collections. It celebrates the layered history, craftsmanship and character that define the English country house, offering everything from fine furniture and Old Master paintings to silver, ceramics and curios from across the globe.
At the centre of the sale is the remarkably comprehensive collection from the Kirkham Hall Estate in North Yorkshire. The breadth of material removed from the house is exceptional, spanning refined nineteenth- and early twentieth-century interiors, continental sculpture, estate furnishings, decorative arts and the personal acquisitions that chart a family’s taste over generations.
The sale is further enriched by pieces from a number of other notable houses, including items descended from the Chichester family, one of Devon’s oldest landed dynasties whose collecting traditions at Northcote, Netherton and later Arlington Court spanned centuries. Their contribution adds an additional thread of provenance and long family continuity.
Across the catalogue, the variety is striking. From early Mouseman carvings to portraiture, fine tea and dinner wares, Edwardian fans, Chinese sancai roof tiles, Japanese lacquer and European Parian sculpture, the sale reveals the cosmopolitan influences that shaped generations of country houses.
The auction concludes with a dedicated section of the Kirkham Hall attics, a trove of rediscovered histories: boxes long undisturbed, practical furnishings, fragments of estate life and the serendipitous finds that have rested unseen for decades. Together they offer a rare and intimate counterpoint to the formality of the principal rooms.
Uniting exceptional provenance with breadth, personality and historical resonance, this Country House Sale offers a rare opportunity to acquire pieces that embody the richness, curiosity and continuity of country house collecting at its most compelling.
