This remarkable single-owner collection, presented across two sales, offers a rare insight into a lifetime of passionate and discerning collecting. Spanning the realms of militaria, natural history and the curious, Part I features an exceptional range of military-related items – from traditional arms, medals and ephemera to an extensive array of military-themed toys, including early Heinrichsen flats and an impressive Ernst Plank pontoon diorama, circa 1912.
Equally captivating is the breadth of natural history and historical material, from entomological cabinets and taxidermy to remarkable antiquities such as a Chinese bronze helmet from the Zhou Dynasty, circa 800–500 BC. Literary and archival treasures also abound, including a 1910 first edition of Wagner’s The Rhinegold & The Valkyrie illustrated by Arthur Rackham, a WWI French stereoscope viewer with rare glass slides, and a typed letter signed by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.
From ancient relics and rare documents to meticulously preserved specimens, this collection is rich in history, character and intrigue – offering something to fascinate collectors across many fields.
