Following the success of our first Modern Art sale, we are delighted to present the second edition – an ambitious and wide-ranging auction bringing together modern British, international, studio and contemporary works across painting, printmaking, sculpture and glass.

The sale opens with a strong group by L. S. Lowry, including the pencil sketch A Country Road with distinguished provenance, alongside signed prints such as Market Scene in a Northern Town and Level Crossing – Burton-on-Trent. Further northern interest comes through works by Brian Shields ‘Braaq’, John Hanley, Bill Tolley and Simon Palmer, while British modernism is represented by names including David Hockney, John Minton, Beryl Cook, Julian Trevelyan, Donald Hamilton Fraser, Kurt Jackson and Jack Pender.

A particular highlight is Peter Layton’s large hand-blown studio glass platter The Arrival of Spring on the Wolds, purchased from the David Hockney Bigger Picture exhibition at the Royal Academy, with Layton’s close connection to Hockney adding further interest. The catalogue also features an important group of works by Nelson Mandela, including the signed My Robben Island lithograph suite, The Guard Tower, Hand of Africa, Bars and Key and the Struggle Series.

Among the contemporary and more unusual works are Banksy’s authenticated Toxic Mary, Jessica Zoob’s atmospheric pair Sweet Rain, Louis Sidoli’s aluminium portraits of Amy Winehouse and Elvis, Doug Hyde’s original pastel Dog and Bee, and Guy Taplin’s carved and painted Canada Goose. Collectors will also find notable groups by Ivan Peries, Richard Gabriel and LTP Manjusri of the Colombo ’43 Group, as well as a distinctive collection of sculptural works by Robert Clatworthy RA, several with direct provenance from the artist.

With its combination of recognised modern masters, fresh-to-market works, studio glass, sculpture, signed editions and contemporary statement pieces, this second Modern Art sale builds confidently on the popularity of the first, offering a dynamic catalogue for collectors at every level. Browse the catalogue now and place your bids for your chance to take home something from this exciting collection.
