Our upcoming Maps, Antiquarian Books & Ephemera Sale presents a distinguished selection of historical works spanning cartography, literature and printed ephemera. This carefully curated auction offers collectors and enthusiasts the opportunity to acquire important and visually striking items that reflect centuries of exploration, knowledge and artistic achievement.

Highlights include a rare early 17th-century engraved map by Frans Hogenberg and Georg Braun, depicting York, Shrewsbury, Lancaster, and Richmond with finely detailed vignettes and hand-colouring. John Speed is prominently represented with several key works, including his map of the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire, a miniature edition of the British Isles, and a 1676 map of the Province of Ulster. Noteworthy maritime charts include Lucas Janszoon Waghenaer’s detailed depiction of the northeast coast of England from his Speculum Nauticum, and Captain Greenville Collins’ extensive chart of the River Thames.

Further highlights comprise Gerard Mercator’s map of the Straits of Magellan, Moses Pitt’s early map of Iceland, and a variety of engraved frontispieces and allegorical prints by artists such as William Hole, Georg Christoph Eimmart, and John Speed. The sale also features James Gillray’s 1806 political cartoon A Great Stream from a Petty Fountain, and a first volume of The Looking Glass; or, Caricature Annual, published in 1831.
