Fine Art & Pictures

Our Fine Art department has a reputation for achieving top prices for local artists, including members of the Staithes Group, Henry Barlow Carter, the Weatherill family, Henry Redmore and Fred Lawson, and paintings of local scenes of Scarborough, Whitby, York and further afield. We also sell a wide range of contemporary paintings, having made record prices for artists such as Steven Scholes, John Hanley and Don Micklethwaite. Our clients include the Pannett Gallery Whitby, the Treasure House Beverley, Scarborough Museums Trust, English Heritage, Chris Beetles and the Maas Gallery.

We sell a wide selection of paintings, ranging from traditional 19th century art, Staithes Group and marine paintings, portraits, and 20th century and contemporary works. Our specialist valuer David Duggleby has over 40 years’ experience in the industry and is an expert on local artists.

We also sell a diverse range of more affordable artwork, both antique and contemporary. Our valuer Charlie Ward is always happy to give free auction advice and speak regarding consigning items for one of our upcoming sales.
