We are excited to announce a new sale for 2026: The Period Home. Taking place on Wednesday 20 Feb, entries for this exciting new auction close Friday 23 January.

Period Home is an approach to interior style that celebrates the elegance, balance and craftsmanship of traditional English townhouse living. It draws on the architectural language of the eighteenth to early twentieth centuries, where proportion, symmetry and quality materials shaped every room. In a Period Home interior, fine Georgian and Regency furniture sits comfortably alongside giltwood mirrors, chandeliers, refined porcelain, bronze sculpture and thoughtful decorative objects. These are items chosen for their poise, finish and ability to elevate a space through quiet sophistication

Recent results across our salerooms have show a sustained demand for this aesthetic, speaking directly to the measured elegance of English townhouse interiors and the collectors who appreciate them.

Furniture: Craftsmanship for the Townhouse Interior

The furniture featured here reflects precisely the calibre of work we aim to present. A late nineteenth century Irish mahogany secretaire bookcase, richly carved and architecturally conceived, achieved £2,800, demonstrating the appetite for statement cabinet furniture with presence and refinement. A Timothy Oulton Chesterfield settee, realising £2,200, shows the strength of well made twentieth century interpretations of classic English forms. Meanwhile, a Mouseman figured oak refectory table, sold for £4,000, illustrates how craftsmanship rooted in tradition continues to resonate in formal interiors.

For the Period Home Sale we welcome Georgian, Regency and Victorian furniture, refined twentieth century seating, secretaire bookcases, sofa and card tables, writing desks, campaign chests, Howard style armchairs, giltwood mirrors, and rugs suitable for balanced architectural interiors.

Decorative Arts: Elegance in Porcelain, Bronze and Gilding

The decorative arts provide the finishing touches that define a sophisticated interior and recent sale results reflect a growing appetite in the market for such objects.  A superb Sèvres déjeuner tea service, painted with portraits of Marie Antoinette and other courtiers, reached £3,400, showing continued enthusiasm for fine eighteenth century porcelain. A stunning early 19th century Blue John urn sold for £1,800, as well as this striking bronze of Diana Wounded by Sir Edgar Bertram MacKennal which captures a moment of quiet vulnerability within a classical tradition. Signed and dated B MacKennal 1905, the sculpture achieved £11,000 at auction.

We are inviting Sèvres, Meissen and Worcester porcelains, giltwood brackets, chandeliers, sconces, bronze figures, marble busts, fine glass, writing slopes, tea caddies, knife boxes and other refined decorative objects suited to elegant townhouse interiors.

Portraiture and Equine Painting with Provenance

Art plays a central role within the Period Home aesthetic. A confident eighteenth century portrait attributed to Sir Godfrey Kneller, sold for £3,700, highlights the enduring appeal of formal portraiture in gilt frames. A lively equine painting by Harry Hall, showing the racehorse Adventurer and achieving £2,300, affirmed the strength of nineteenth century sporting art. Meanwhile, a pair of late eighteenth century pastel portraits of Henry and Elizabeth Chichester, realised £2,000, emphasised the added value of family provenance and historical depth.

We welcome eighteenth and nineteenth century portraits, equine paintings, architectural landscapes, and other period artworks that complement a measured, classical interior scheme.

These recent results offer a clear picture of the style and breadth of objects that will define our new Period Home Sale. Beyond furniture, bronzes and paintings, we are also seeking lighting, mirrors, rugs, porcelain, glass, sculpture, decorative boxes, architectural elements and the refined objects that complete a considered interior.

If you are considering consigning a single piece or an entire collection, our specialists are pleased to advise on suitability, estimates and the consignment process. We are now welcoming enquiries as we curate the inaugural auction.
