Nostalgia & a Few Surprises: Toys & Models Sale Results

Here is something you might not expect from an auction house, a sealed Pokémon booster box, a mint condition Polly Pocket Dream World playset and an Ayrton Senna die-cast racing car all sold in the same sale. Not alongside each other by accident, but because they all belong to the same category of toys, things that were played with, loved, boxed up and forgotten about and are now worth considerably more than anyone imagined.

Whether it is still in the box, tucked away in a loft or sitting on a shelf waiting to be rediscovered, you might be sitting on something special. Gotta Sell 'Em All
Pokémon cards continue to command remarkable interest and this sale was no exception. A collection of Wizards of the Coast cards spanning the Base Set, Jungle Set, Fossil Set and Team Rocket examples, including a 1st edition pre-release holo Aerodactyl and a black star promo Mew, sold for £260. A sealed Pokémon TCG Phantasmal Flames Booster Box sold for £120. Still in the wrapper. Still finding buyers. The Pokémon market shows absolutely no sign of cooling down.

Brick by Brick
Lego sets, particularly boxed Disney editions, continue to perform with real consistency. A Lego Disney Train and Station, no. 71044, boxed, sold for £340. A Lego Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary, no. 71042, boxed, sold for £280. A Lego Disney Castle, no. 71040, boxed, sold for £300. A Lego Creator Carousel, no. 10257, boxed, sold for £170. The message here is clear: keep the box.

Tiny Worlds, Big Prices
Few toys carry the nostalgic charge of a Polly Pocket, and collectors are paying accordingly. Five Bluebird Polly Pocket Disney playsets, including the 1998 Jungle Book, 1995 Cinderella's Enchanted Castle and 1997 Mulan's Brave Journey, sold for £130. A 1991 Dream World playset with six original dolls and accessories, together with a 1996 Magical Movin' Pollyville set and a 1991 Let's Party Board Game, sold for £110. Five further 1990s Bluebird Polly Pocket playsets, including the 1989 Jewel Case and 1994 Light Up Kitty House, sold for £95. Small enough to fit in a pocket, and apparently worth more than most people realise.

Life in the Fast Lane
Die-cast cars drew strong interest from collectors across several makers and scales. An ERTL Blade Runner 1:64 four vehicle set in original box sold for £220, matched by a Motorbox Exoto 1988 Jaguar XJR-9LM in Silk Cut livery, boxed, also at £220. An Autoart Signature 1:18 Koenigsegg CCX in orange with certificate of authenticity sold for £200, as did a Minichamps 1:18 Ayrton Senna Toleman Hart TG184 from the 1984 season. Four very different cars, four very consistent results.

The Attic Generation
Some of the most characterful lots in the sale came from an earlier era entirely. Early 20th century Meccano outfits, including Engineering in Miniature and Engineering for Boys sets, sold for £200. A Mettoy friction drive Lambretta scooter in its original box sold for £170. A collection of late 19th and early 20th century picture books, titles including The Night Before Christmas and The Sleeping Beauty, sold for £130. Fifteen further children's picture books, eleven published by Raphael Tuck & Sons and four by Ernest Nister, sold for £100. Objects from a world before screens, and still finding admirers.

Playtime
The final section brought together a wonderfully varied group of playthings. Three 1960s and 70s Palitoy Action Man dolls with a collection of clothing and accessories sold for £110. A mid-20th century German Roulomint Record coin operated roulette machine sold for £85. A Subbuteo Table Soccer Club Edition with boxed accessories including teams, trophy sets and terrace units sold for £200. Seven Scalextric 1:32 scale slot cars, all boxed, including an Aston Martin DBR9, a Ford GT40 Le Mans 1969 and a pair of Subaru Imprezas, sold for £150.
