This week at Duggleby’s brings together five sales across jewellery, furniture, art, decorative objects and affordable antiques. With auctions closing this Thursday and Friday, the catalogues offer a varied mix of fine diamond pieces, traditional furniture, accessible artwork, ceramics, glass and collectables.

Jewellery

The Jewellery sale brings together fine diamond pieces, coloured stones and wearable designs.

An 18ct white gold diamond bracelet, Lot 8005, opens the selection with an articulated and pierced design. The milgrain links are set with round brilliant cut diamonds, while the sides feature engraved foliate decoration, adding detail beyond the sparkle of the stones. Stamped 750 and with a total diamond weight of approximately 4.15 carats, it is estimated at £2,000 to £4,000.

A strong coloured stone highlight follows with an 18ct white gold unheated ruby and diamond cluster ring, Lot 8029. The oval ruby weighs approximately 3.07 carats and is surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds with a total diamond weight of approximately 1.65 carats. Hallmarked and offered with a WGI certificate, the ring carries an estimate of £4,500 to £5,500. For those drawn to more distinctive design, a pair of platinum diamond modernist pendant stud earrings, Lot 8019, combines old cut and rose cut diamonds in an elegant drop form. Each earring is set with a single rose pear cut diamond of approximately 1.00 and 1.20 carats, suspended from two milgrain set old cut diamonds, with screw back settings. With a total diamond weight of approximately 2.40 carats, they are estimated at £2,000 to £3,000.

Furniture & Rugs

The Furniture & Rugs sale offers traditional furniture, seating and useful pieces for interiors, with highlights suited to studies, bedrooms and relaxed living spaces.

An Acornman Edwardian style mahogany kneehole desk, Lot 7026, offers an accessible piece of Yorkshire craftsmanship. Made by the workshop of Alan Grainger of Brandsby, it features a rectangular top with inset tooled green leather writing surface, central frieze drawer, further drawers to either side and square tapering inlaid supports terminating in spade feet. With the signature carved acorn, it is estimated at £100 to £200. A Victorian walnut framed reading open armchair, Lot 7021, brings comfort and character to the seating section. Designed in a reclined position, it has a high sprung back and deep seat upholstered in crimson fabric, with matching loose cushion, turned arm terminals and turned feet on brass castors. It is also estimated at £100 to £200.

For bedroom or occasional storage, a pair of Edwardian mahogany pedestal chests, Lot 7031, provides a neat and practical option. Each chest is of moulded rectangular form, fitted with four graduated drawers, brass swan neck handles and a moulded plinth base. The pair carries an estimate of £300 to £500.

Affordable Art

The Affordable Art sale includes oils, watercolours and illustration, with highlights ranging from equestrian drama to coastal views and much more.

Malcolm Coward’s Flamenco Dancers and Gauchos on Horseback, Lot 6513, brings movement, colour and theatre to the sale. Painted in oil on canvas and signed, the work combines figure and equestrian subjects in a lively composition, with an estimate of £200 to £400. A charming illustration highlight appears in Colin Thompson’s Pictures of Home Cat Illustration, Lot 6528. Worked in ink and watercolour, it is signed and offered together with a copy of the book. Featured on the cover of Thompson’s Pictures of Home, commissioned by Leeds Permanent Building Society, it combines original artwork with publication interest and is estimated at £200 to £400.

A coastal subject by John Ernest Aitken, Lot 6510, offers a more traditional watercolour highlight. Titled Off to Peterhead - Anstruther Fife, it is signed and titled on a Chas. Rowley and Co 1910 Ltd label verso. With its Scottish maritime subject and period presentation, it carries an estimate of £100 to £200.

Antique & Decorative Objects

Bringing together glass, ceramics and collectables, this sale features recognised names including Daum, Royal Crown Derby, Lladro, Denby and more.

A Daum pâte de verre bowl, Lot 6009, is a striking decorative highlight. Decorated with figs and lizards in relief, and incised Daum France to the edge of the base, it is offered boxed and has an estimate of £400 to £600. With its sculptural form and richly worked surface, it brings colour, texture and collector appeal. Royal Crown Derby collectors will note the set of five pattern 1128 teacups and saucers, Lot 6017. One of the factory’s most recognisable Imari-style patterns, 1128 remains popular for its rich colour and gilded decoration. The set is estimated at £200 to £300.

Animation interest comes with a Disney hand-painted limited edition animation cel, Classic Bugs, Lot 6039. Signed by Tom, Bob and Charles McKimson and offered with a certificate of authenticity, it is estimated at £150 to £250. A colourful highlight for collectors of animation art and popular culture.

Affordable Antiques

The Affordable Antiques sale offers jewellery, ceramics, pictures and collectables at accessible estimates, with a broad mix for collectors and casual buyers.

A group comprising a pair of rose gold cufflinks, gold wristwatch and 15ct gold ring, Lot 9000, leads the selection. The cufflinks feature engraved decoration, while the wristwatch is set to a leather strap. With both 9ct and 15ct gold represented, the group is estimated at £250 to £350. Ceramic interest includes an early 20th century Royal Doulton stoneware harvest tankard, Lot 9061. With a silver rim and inscription reading “Sidney Hardwick From Capt. Pope 1907”, it combines decorative stoneware with personal presentation history. It is estimated at £20 to £50.

A local view closes the highlights, with Frank Watson Wood’s Walmgate Bar - York, Lot 9107. Painted in oil on canvas board, signed, inscribed and dated 1934, the work is offered unframed and carries an estimate of £20 to £50. A small but appealing piece for collectors of York scenes and regional art.
