This week at Duggleby’s brings together a varied run of specialist sales, with hand-knotted rugs, fine jewellery, furniture, affordable art, silver and collectables all coming under the hammer.
Across the catalogues, bidders will find everything from statement carpets and gemstone jewellery to traditional furnishings, original artwork, novelty silver and collectable pieces with plenty of character. 

Here are a few lots that caught our team’s eye this week.

Persian & Oriental Rugs & Carpets

The Persian & Oriental Rugs & Carpets Auction showcases a vibrant selection of hand-knotted and flatweave rugs and carpets, with rich colours, intricate motifs and designs suited to a wide range of interiors.

A large Aubusson design flatweave carpet, Lot 516, brings soft decorative impact to the sale. The cream ground is centred by an oval medallion decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves and flowerheads, surrounded by floral sprays, foliate scrolls and rocaille motifs in muted pink, blue and gold tones. Estimated at £300 to £500, it would suit a formal sitting room, bedroom or elegant interior scheme. Traditional Persian design appears in a Kashan hand-knotted carpet, Lot 514, estimated at £200 to £300. With its madder red ground, shaped dark navy and ivory floral medallion, scrolling vines, palmettes and flowerheads, it offers the layered pattern and rich colour that make Kashan carpets so popular with interiors buyers.

A more compact option comes in the form of a Persian Heriz rug, Lot 511, with indigo and rust tones, central geometric star medallion and stylised foliate border. Estimated at £100 to £150, it is an accessible way to bring colour, pattern and handwoven character into a hallway, study or smaller living space.

Jewellery

The Jewellery auction brings together antique, vintage and modern pieces, with diamonds, coloured gemstones, gold and platinum represented throughout the catalogue.

An 18ct white gold emerald and diamond cluster ring, Lot 2061, is one of the standout gemstone pieces in the sale. Set with a single cushion cut emerald of approximately 13.20 carats, surrounded by round brilliant and baguette cut diamonds, it has both scale and presence. With diamond set shoulders, a total diamond weight of approximately 1.00 carat and an estimate of £6,000 to £7,000, it is a striking statement ring. A classic diamond highlight follows with an 18ct white gold diamond bracelet, Lot 2037, estimated at £1,500 to £2,000. Set with fifty-nine round brilliant cut diamonds, with a total diamond weight of 4.29 carats, it offers an elegant and wearable design with plenty of sparkle.

For something playful and decorative, a pair of 18ct white gold diamond butterfly earrings, Lot 2045, carries an estimate of £500 to £700. Each earring is pavé set with single cut diamonds, creating a light, pretty design with strong everyday appeal.

Furniture & Rugs

The Furniture & Rugs Auction offers a wide selection of antique, traditional, vintage and modern furnishings, with pieces suited to dining rooms, lounges, bedrooms, offices and everyday interiors.

A 20th century haberdashery style hardwood chest, Lot 1020, brings useful storage and shop-fitting character to the sale. With two brushing slides, six glass fronted drawers, blackened metal pulls and a plinth base, it has strong decorative and practical appeal. Estimated at £200 to £400, it would work well in a kitchen, studio, retail setting or characterful interior.

A Victorian mahogany frame parlour settee, Lot 1003, offers traditional seating with a softer period look. Upholstered in back-buttoned ivory fabric and estimated at £100 to £200, it could suit a bedroom, hallway or sitting room where a smaller statement piece is needed. A Georgian oak tea table, Lot 1000, is another appealing furniture highlight. With a rectangular fold-over top, single frieze drawer, brass swing handle, shaped apron and gateleg raised on square tapering supports, it combines practical form with Georgian character. It is also estimated at £100 to £200.

Affordable Art

The Affordable Art Auction brings together oils, watercolours, pastels, prints and works on paper, with traditional landscapes, contemporary compositions, coastal scenes and international subjects represented throughout. A colourful still life by Captain George Claude Leon Underwood, Lot 4111, brings an international flavour to the sale. Still Life of a Market Stall in Mexico is a signed pastel measuring 22cm x 35cm, estimated at £200 to £400. Its subject and medium give it a lively, immediate quality.

Also estimated at £200 to £400, Le Minh’s Fishing Village with Moored Boats, Lot 4112, offers a coastal scene with strong atmosphere. Painted in oil on canvas, signed and dated ’69, the work reflects a quieter maritime subject, with moored boats and village life brought together in a compact composition. A contemporary highlight comes from Peter Bell, with The Day the Flowers Come, Lot 4009. Signed and titled verso, the pastel measures 55cm x 77cm and carries an estimate of £100 to £200. With its expressive title and larger format, it offers an accessible piece of contemporary colour and character.

Silver

The Silver sale brings together antique and modern silver, including tableware, decorative pieces, novelty collectables and smaller items with strong gift or display appeal.

A boxed Stuart Devlin silver and silver-gilt surprise egg, Lot 2501, is a charming collectable highlight. The textured gilt exterior opens to reveal an underwater scene with two fish and an anchor, combining Devlin’s playful approach to design with fine craftsmanship. Hallmarked London 1977 and estimated at £200 to £400, it is a delightful piece for collectors of modern silver.

Equestrian and commemorative interest meet in a late 20th century silver stirrup cup, Lot 2535, surmounted by a naturalistically modelled horse’s head. Engraved for The Queen’s Silver Jubilee 1977, and hallmarked London 1977, it is estimated at £250 to £350. A decorative animal piece appears in a mid 20th century Iranian silver model of a bird, Lot 2532. With engraved feathers and stamped with the lion and scimitar mark to the underside of the tail, it is estimated at £100 to £200. Small in scale but full of charm, it is a pleasing addition to the silver section.

Affordable Antiques: Collectors, Pictures & Jewellery

The Affordable Antiques sale offers a broad mix of collectables, pictures, jewellery and decorative pieces, with accessible estimates throughout.

A Tibetan style cuff, Lot 5275, inlaid with turquoise and lapis lazuli, brings colour and texture to the jewellery and accessories section. Estimated at £50 to £100, it has decorative appeal whether worn or displayed. Music memorabilia features with a signed Journey Escape record, Lot 5156, including signatures from Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain and Ross Valory. Offered alongside a Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA record, Wrecking Ball tour programme and ticket, the group is estimated at £20 to £50 and should appeal to rock music collectors.

A compact design piece closes this week’s selection, with an Omega ball form desk clock, Lot 5150. Measuring 6cm high and estimated at £30 to £60, it is a neat collectable from a name best known for precision timekeeping.
