Strong Results Across the Collection
The Kirkham Hall collection generated strong bidding across fine art, furniture, ceramics and decorative objects. Among the notable results was Sir William Russell Flint’s 1937 watercolour The Interrupted Reader, which sold for £6,200 against an estimate of £3,000–£5,000.
An eighteenth-century Sèvres bleu de ciel tea service, decorated with portraits of French courtiers including Marie Antoinette and Madame du Barry, achieved £3,400 against an estimate of £1,000–£1,500. An Italian marble figure of Sleeping Venus, after Antonio Canova, realised £5,000, while an impressive George III Chippendale-design carved giltwood mirror sold for £3,200. A set of four Italian marble putti-fauns from the Hall was placed in our specialist sale, The Grand Tour, where it achieved £2,900.
A Complete Clearance & Auction Service
Despite the scale of Kirkham Hall and the short lead time, we completed the clearance within the agreed schedule. Bequeathed items were safely identified and delivered, the remaining contents were carefully removed, and more than a thousand individual objects were prepared for sale through the most appropriate auction channels.
For the client, this provided a single, coordinated service covering every stage – from the initial property assessment and contents valuation to clearance, transport, specialist cataloguing, marketing and sale at auction.
The Kirkham Hall project demonstrates that the clearance of a high-value or historic property involves far more than simply removing its contents. It requires careful planning, specialist knowledge and an understanding of how to preserve provenance while presenting each item to the right market.
Whether we are working with a historic country house, a substantial private residence or a valuable collection, we tailor our property clearance and auction service to the individual requirements of the client, the contents and the timescale.
If you are considering the clearance and sale of a substantial property or collection, Dugglebys can help you every step of the way. We manage the entire process, from initial assessment and valuation to full clearance, transport, cataloguing, marketing and sale at auction.
