An imposing and richly adorned Empire Revival jardiniere of circular form, decorated with finely cast gilt bronze laurel garlands and floral swags, interior with a modern brass liner, sides with gilt bronze carrying handles, raised on three tripod legs with classical caryatid masks with wings terminating in lion paw feet, circa 1900 Provenance: This jardiniere formed part of the original furnishings of the opulent Empire Room at Kinloch Castle, built by industrialist George Bullough in 1900. An original inventory number, ‘X954’, is inscribed on one facing, verifying its presence in the Kinloch Castle collection. This jardiniere epitomises the lavish taste of the Edwardian elite and the high standards of craftsmanship employed in the furnishing of Kinloch Castle, the first private home in Scotland to be lit by electricity and famed for its extravagant interiors.
