This lot consists of a set of four 20th-century Royal Pharmaceutical Society amethyst glass bottles. Each bottle features a bellied form with a clear cut glass spire stopper. The body of each bottle bears a gilt label in Latin: ELIX:THYM:, ELIX:CAMPH:, ELIX:ANIS:, and ELIX:SENN:, along with a gilt Royal Pharmaceutical Society crest on the neck. The bottles measure H25cm.
These exquisite bottles come with a fascinating provenance. They originate from the collection of the family of Peter Green, a practising pharmacist with a career spanning the mid to late 20th century. Peter Green managed pharmacies in Yeovil, Somerset, and later Selles Chemist in Filey, North Yorkshire. He eventually purchased and operated his own business, Peter Green Pharmacy, situated in the Market Place, Malton. The bottles were prominently displayed as part of the traditional shop fittings in both the Filey and Malton pharmacies and were cherished as part of his personal collection.
