This single-artist collection presents approximately 50 works from the home and studio of Gillian Ross Kelsey, offering an intimate view of an artist whose career spanned many decades, media and stylistic developments.
Born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, Ross Kelsey trained at Camberwell School of Art in the 1960s before later gaining her MA at Nottingham Trent University. She went on to lecture at Grimsby School of Art from 1976 to 1994 and exhibited widely throughout England and Wales. A long-standing member of the Lincolnshire Artists’ Society, she also served as Chair and Vice President.
Ross Kelsey’s work moved from figurative subjects, still lifes and landscapes towards increasingly abstract compositions, while retaining a deep interest in colour, shape, texture and light. Her paintings often begin with observed places, flowers, gardens or remembered landscapes, before developing into bold, intuitive and expressive arrangements. In her own words, she believed in allowing paintings the “freedom to paint themselves”, embracing the surprise and energy of the creative process.
Drawn from the artist’s own home and studio, this collection is both a celebration of Ross Kelsey’s artistic legacy and a rare chance to acquire works that remained close to the artist herself – a vivid body of work by a painter whose canvas, colour and imagination continue to resonate.
