SATURDAY 11 MAY HIGHLIGHTS

HEAVYWEIGHT PAPERWEIGHTS
A pair of Baccarat mushroom paperweights with spiral bands in red and blue pulled in a string of commission bids and three phone lines, selling eventually to a buyer from Somerset against two buyers from Germany, one in the room and another on the phone for £3,300.
A collection of Royal Crown Derby from Leeds also pulled in the bids headed by a pair of candlesticks at £500. Other keen ceramics prices included a Royal Worcester James Stinton bowl at £560 and Moorcroft Orchid vase £280.
Wherever Robert Thompson's mouse sneaks his nose into a saleroom there are always buyers chasing his tail - two book troughs fetched £170 & £160, pair of bookends £190 and a pair of tablelamps £370.

Any similar entries for the next sale should be with us by Thursday 16 May please. Also final entries for The Next Picture Sale should be with us by Wednesday 15 May.

RESULTS 27TH APRIL 2013

As ever quality was still the determining factor in catching the bidders' eye, whether old or new! A pair Regency bronze and gilded candlesticks £800, or a collection of Moorcroft miniature enamels £770, from the same factory three graduating pottery vases sold for £420.

The interest in the silver and gold market remained resolute with private collectors taking all of the principal silver lots against strong competition from the trade. Highlights being a matched eight place setting canteen selling for a total of £1,420, Victorian goblet £350, and a dressing table tray £300.

Like the silver market bidding was brisk for a collection of world stamps which sold in 15 lots for a total of £1,540.

The Modern sale items achieved some strong results too with a Bose Acoustic Wave Music System making a loud £360 and a La-z-boy electric recliner rising to £400.

Entries for the next auction 11/05/13 are rapidly increasing with the sale nearly reaching full capacity - final entries by Wednesday 29th please.

Saturday 13th April

Antique furniture makes a return to form headed up by a George III oak dresser and rack at £1,000, followed by a quality set of eight 19th Century mahogany Chippendale style chairs at £800. A well figured Victorian mahogany piano top davenport sold to the West Riding for £740. The magnificent four poster bed went to a local village Manor house for £580.

A more unexpected result was the £1,100 paid for the RGD radiogram with Garrard 210 turntable apparently just acquired for the amplifier.

Best lot in a busy jewellery section was a three stone diamond and emerald ring at £1,300.

Easter Sale results 30/03/13

Top price of the day was the impressive Edwardian satinwood bedroom suite at £1,250 closely followed by the most unusual lot a larger than life size automatom monk from the Victorian era which made £1,150. It's eerie presence during the week had made locking up the saleroom rather disconcerting.
Still in the antique section an item rarely seen on the market these days was a George III mahogany urn or kettle stand which made a very pleasing £600.
A smart solid rectangular dining table and eight chairs was destined for the board room at £640 but the purchaser's wife had other ideas and it will probably end up in the kitchen.
The first part of a well looked after collection of Royal Crown Derby paperweights still with their boxes made a total of £2,500.
The silver section was topped by a George IV teapot at £360 and the gold by a vintage 9ct gold necklace which made £260.
The saleroom is closed Easter Monday.
Items are now being catalogued for the 13 April sale. Just pop-in with any items weekdays between 8.30am and 5pm or please phone for a home appointment.
