AUCTION HOUSE TRAINEE - FURNITURE & INTERIORS

Due to an increase in consignments and the ever-growing popularity of auctions, David Duggleby Auctioneers are currently recruiting for an auction house trainee to join our expanding team in our furniture and interiors department. Based at our auction house in Scarborough, this key role will contribute to the efficiency of the auction house as a whole.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to build skills within the dynamic environment of a busy saleroom. It will include communicating with our in-house logistics team, the saleroom team and valuers to contribute to the fluidity of the goods-in process.

The trainee will be responsible for ensuring all items - from smaller antiques to items of furniture - are booked in correctly on our bespoke system, as well as preparing incoming consignments for valuers and photographing catalogued furniture. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of this auction process.

In addition to hands-on experience, the trainee will receive training from experienced professionals, providing a solid foundation for a successful career in the auction industry.

Auction House Trainee:

  • Ensure all items are correctly booked in when entering the auction house
  • Organise items ready for cataloguing
  • Photography of furniture and interiors items for inclusion in auction catalogues
  • Assisting in the smooth running of busy auction and viewing days
  • Assisting the valuers throughout the cataloguing process

The Candidate must:

  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have initiative and a positive attitude towards assisting others
  • Have excellent time keeping skills
  • The ability to work under pressure and towards deadlines
  • Be physically fit and capable of moving heavy furniture and garden items
  • Be adaptable and able to prioritise duties

Based at our auction house in Scarborough, the successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity to work with a wide variety of items from antiques and ceramics to coins and medals.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to hone skills within the dynamic environment of a busy saleroom. From photographing items to assisting in the setup of auctions. The trainee will be immersed in every aspect of the auction process. They will have the chance to interact with collectors, dealers, and industry experts, gaining valuable insights and experience within the auction world.

In addition to hands-on experience, the trainee will receive training from experienced professionals, providing a solid foundation for a successful career in the auction industry.

Auction House Trainee:

  • Photography of a wide variety of items for inclusion in auction catalogues
  • Preparing saleroom displays for auction viewings
