In a celebration of history, art, and fine craftsmanship, our recent Country House Sale was a resounding success, attracting collectors and enthusiasts from across the globe. This event underscored the profound appreciation for antique and historical pieces, showcasing a variety of exquisite items that span centuries and cultures.

Here, we highlight some of the standout sales that captivated our audience.

 

Sale Highlights

Sir Edgar Bertram MacKennal's "Diana Wounded" - A Bronze Masterpiece

Leading the auction's triumphs was the remarkable bronze sculpture "Diana Wounded" by the renowned Australian artist Sir Edgar Bertram MacKennal. Dated 1905 and bearing a signature, this piece features a compelling depiction of Diana with a black patina that enhances its dramatic effect. Standing at 37cm, it sold for an impressive £11,000, reflecting the high regard for MacKennal's work and the timeless allure of classical mythology in art.

 

Grand Tour Cameos and Intaglios Collection

A large and impressive collection of Grand Tour cameos and intaglios captivated bidders, ultimately selling for £2,600. This collection, embodying the educational and cultural journeys of the 18th and 19th centuries, represents a profound appreciation for classical art and history.

Edwardian Mahogany Artist's Cabinet

Once belonging to British artist Eli Marsden Wilson (1877-1965), an Edwardian mahogany artist's cabinet found a new home for £3,100. This piece not only served as a functional item for the artist but also carries the history and creative spirit of Wilson, making it a significant acquisition for collectors and enthusiasts of Edwardian furniture and British art history.

 

Late 19th Century Irish Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase

Adding to the array of significant sales was a large and impressive late 19th-century Irish mahogany secretaire bookcase, which found a new owner for £2,800. This beautiful piece combines utility with elegance, showcasing the rich tradition of Irish craftsmanship in woodwork. This piece truly exemplifies the beauty and quality of the items offered in this sale.

18th Century Meissen Figure of an Avvocato

A notable highlight was an 18th-century Meissen figure representing an Avvocato, or the Lawyer, from the Commedia Dell'arte series. Crafted circa 1740-45, this piece embodies the exquisite detail and whimsical charm that Meissen porcelain is celebrated for. It sold for £1,100 underscoring the enduring fascination with and value of historical porcelain figures.

 

Rare 18th Century English Delft Coffee Cup and Saucer

A rare 18th-century English delft coffee cup and saucer also achieved £1,100, illustrating the collector's interest in fine and historic ceramics. This sale highlights the beauty and rarity of English delftware, a cherished collectable for those passionate about ceramic arts.

Mouseman Oak Wall Hanging Weather Centre

The charm of craftsmanship was well-represented by a Mouseman oak wall hanging combination weather centre, which sold for £600. This piece is a testament to the unique British tradition of carved oak furniture, highlighting the whimsical and highly collectable nature of Mouseman creations. This piece is just one of many Yorkshire oak items to do exceedingly well in the sale. Other notable highlights included a Mouseman oak dresser, selling for £4,500 and a Rabbitman sideboard, selling for £1,000

 

20th Century Marble Planter

Rounding off our highlights is a 20th-century marble planter, which was sold for £1,100. This piece, with its elegant design and craftsmanship, speaks to the timeless appeal of marble in home decor, resonating well with modern and classic tastes alike.
