Notes: Bland was born at Cloughton near Scarborough, by the age of 24 he was describing himself in the 1881 census as an artist, living with his parents in North Marine Road. He died of a stroke in 1899. This is probably the largest and most important work to have been sold at auction, showing the influence of Henry Barlow Carter (1804-1868)
