  •  Len Tabner (Northern British 1946-): 'Sun Going Down', watercolour on handmade paper signed titled and dated '7:15pm 14th October 1990' and inscribed 'Speed 16 knots, Lat. 40 53' South, Long. 44 33' West', 56cm x 76cm Provenance: with Agnew's Old Bond Street London, label verso, exhibition catalogue included. Notes: Tabner born in South Bank Middlesbrough now lives a few hundred yards from the highest cliffs in England, at 650 feet above the sea, and near the Boulby Potash Mine. His father had been a merchant seaman and Tabner remains fascinated by the grim grandeur of the industrial Northeast, the sea and the weather. Between September and December 1990 Tabner made the journey through the South Atlantic to the Falkland Islands and on to South Georgia, documenting 'en plein air' the sea and landscape in all weathers. On his return Agnew's mounted an exhibition 'A Voyage South' at their Old Bond St. Gallery in association with the University of Teesside and the Laing Gallery Newcastle  DDS - Artist's resale rights may apply to this lot
