Description: 'Lady Leigh' - Scarborough's Third RNLI Lifeboat Launching out to Sea, 19th century oil on canvas unsigned 44cm x 60cm

Notes: The Lady Leigh made history on the night of 28/29 Oct 1880 when 9 sailing vessels were wrecked in Scarborough's South Bay. The boat and crew were on duty continuously for 30 hours rescuing 28 people from 5 wrecks. The coxman of 40 years John Owston was awarded the Silver Medal from the RNLI for this rescue
