Provenance: exh. Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, label verso 
Notes: Arthur Severn came from a prominent artistic family, with his father Joseph, brother Walter and sister Mary also being painters. He was a good friend of the art critic John Ruskin, marrying his niece Joan Ruskin Agnew in 1871. From 1881 Joan and Arthur joined Ruskin at his house 'Brantwood' on Coniston Water, near where the present work was painted, for the last thirty years of Ruskin's life; the house was left to the Severns on Ruskin's death in 1900.

Excellent original colour and condition. Probably in its original slip with later frame suffering losses
