The Summer Art Sale

17/06/2022

We are delighted to present the catalogue for our Summer Art Sale: two hundred and twenty-four oils, watercolours, drawings, and prints available to browse and bid on. The sale features a hand-picked selection of works by local, national, and international artists, spanning over three hundred years from the 17th century to the present day.

Highlights include Modern British art (including lot 118: Urb-Bliss, the first work by contemporary North West artist Matt Wilde), a selection of Staithes Group pictures (the section is headlined by a truly monumental oil by Robert Jobling - at 36" x 28", it is one of his largest paintings to come on to the market in recent years and has come from a private collection in the USA), and The William Burns Studio Collection (twenty-two oils by the Sheffield artist William Burns, direct from the artists family and the majority previously unseen - including lot 4, an oil of a Busy Beach in Scarborough). This studio sale provides an interesting cross-section of the artists output: roughly half of the pictures depict scenes on the Yorkshire Coast, but other views include Paris, Suffolk, Somerset, and Norfolk.
