Notes: Thomas was the father of Thomas Edwin La Dell ARA (1914-1970), he is listed as a 'Sheffield-born bookbinder' and 'still life painter' along with his wife Ellen. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1949-1967; his inaugural exhibit in 1949 was entitled 'The Old Elm' (No.938), which, owing to the James Bourlett label verso, may well be the present lot.
