  • Early 20th century French white marble and ormolu-mounted mantle clock surmounted with a with an ormolu bowl of fruit and grapes, round topped case with corresponding marble side pieces, four gilded finials and applied rocaille decorated panels, on a breakfront plinth with gilded guilloche decoration, plinth raised on ormolu ball and cusp feet, with an eight-day rack striking movement striking the hours and half hours on a bell, rear movement plate stamped “ Marti Medaille d’or Paris 1900”, white convex enamel dial with upright Arabic numerals and minute track with Arabic quarter hours, pierced gilt hands within a convex glass and cast bezel, with pendulum and key. *Samuel Marti was a renowned French clockmaker during the 19th century, establishing his business in 1841 in Montbéliard a department in northeast France, Marti exhibited his clocks regularly at expositions in Paris, where he won a Bronze Medal in 1860, a Silver Medal in 1889, and several Gold Medals in1841, 1851, 1852, 1900.
