Mouseman Hovingham Estate limited-edition octagonal coffee table in English and burr oak, made by the workshop of Robert Thompson of Kilburn. The table has concave faceted sides and a top inlaid with symmetrical figured burr-oak panels, above a cluster-column base of four octagonal supports united on a cruciform base. It bears the carved Mouseman signature.
Robert Thompson created the original design in 1924 to mark the birth of his first grandchild, Jean Cartwright. Two examples were made by Robert: one for Jean and one for her mother, his daughter Elsie Cartwright. In 2002, oak from two 250-year-old trees acquired from the Worsley family estate at Hovingham, North Yorkshire, was used to make a limited edition of 99 tables. This distinctive Mouseman table is for sale at auction with Duggleby Auctioneers.
