John Bancroft of Scarborough - a fine late George III 8-day mahogany longcase clock, with an elaborate pagoda pediment, brass ball and eagle finials and oval conch shell inlay, break arch hood door flanked by reeded pilasters with brass Corinthian capitals, trunk with inlaid canted corners and a break arch trunk door with "Zulu shield" inlay, conforming plinth with with shaped feet to the front, painted dial with moon work, upright Arabic numerals for the hours and quarter minutes, subsidiary seconds and date dials and stamped brass hands, floral spandrels on a green background with gilt highlights, dial pinned via a cast iron falseplate to a rack striking movement with an anchor escapement, striking the hours on a cast bell. With weights and pendulum.
John Bancroft is though to have worked in London prior to working in Scarborough c1770-1807.
